Automatically Monitoring Your Blood Sugar While You Drive - Reality?

This is a really cool idea! Read below to see if it may become a reality.

It may become possible without endangering your life. Medtronic, maker of numerous products for the diabetes marketplace, has teamed up with Ford Motor Company to create a device that tracks your blood sugar levels while you drive.

The prototype device combines the use of Bluetooth technology already available through Ford's popular in-car infotainment system, called Sync, with Medtronic's continuous glucose monitor. If the driver's blood sugar level goes below a certain threshold, the device can send an alert sound or flash a signal on the car dashboard.

The Ford-Medtronic prototype is still being tested to determine if they will offer it in future models of Ford vehicles. If it were to become available it would be offered as an option, much as the infotainment features are now.

Ford released Sync in 2008 to mostly positive reviews. Developed with Microsoft, the system enables voice control of phones and audio systems and is available in most models of Ford vehicles. (It's an extra $395 when optional.)

Anything that promotes the healthy management of diabetes is a great thing. Look for this in your next car!
