AUVSI and ASMC Collaborate to Support PPBE Reform
ALEXANDRIA, Va., February 28, 2023 (Newswire.com) - The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) announced today a collaboration to broaden perspective in support of Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) Reform.
ASMC formed a PPBE Reform Task Force in May 2022 to develop recommendations, raise awareness, and review and assess documents released by the Legislative Commission on PPBE Reform and other organizations. Their work involves conducting public forums and collaborations with organizations such as the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), to inform recommendations with the widest possible areas of practice involved in PPBE.
"We are excited to have AUVSI join our 'Team of Teams' approach to PPBE Reform," said Rich Brady, ASMC CEO. "AUVSI and their corporate partners bring critical insights into the challenges and opportunities with the PPBE process from the commercial and emerging technology perspectives."
The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022, Section 1004, created the independent Commission within the legislative branch on reform of the Department of Defense PPBE process. Congress and the U.S. Department of Defense appointed members of the Commission and directed the Commission to submit a final report of recommendations by Sept. 24, 2023, to the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committees, and the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
"The Uncrewed Vehicle Systems industry is a critical enabler of US combat capability in great power competition. It is fantastic to have AUVSI on our team as we work to develop recommendations to eliminate the Valley of Death in tech innovation," said Michael Conlin, ASMC PPBE Reform Task Force Chair.
AUVSI's Maritime Advocacy Committee fosters collaboration between government, industry, and academia - making it a preeminent voice on acquisition policies and processes. "A 'Whole of Nation' approach will help to accelerate delivery of uncrewed and autonomous capabilities to the warfighter," said Michael Smitsky, Vice President, Government Affairs at AUVSI. "As we streamline communications between ASMC PPBE Reform Task Force and AUVSI members, we will explore industry perspectives on observed challenges and potential solution sets."
Future collaboration and discussion on PPBE Reform will take place at AUVSI's XPONENTIAL 2023 at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado, from May 9 - 11, 2023, and at ASMC's Professional Development Institute 2023 at the America's Center Convention Complex, St Louis, Missouri, from May 31 - June 2, 2023.
