Avamere Receives PPE from The University of New Mexico

Avamere at Rio Rancho and Avamere at Roswell, two senior living communities, received 3D-printed masks and 50 face shields each from The University of New Mexico.

Craig Kief, a staff member at The University of New Mexico, facilitated the donation. His mother is a resident at Avamere at Rio Rancho.

“The University of New Mexico is proud to support the PPE needs of Avamere,” Kief stated. “As a leader in helping to support our active seniors, they are on the forefront of dealing with this terrible pandemic.”

Seniors are among some of the most vulnerable population during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes the residents at both Avamere New Mexico locations. Avamere at Rio Rancho offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care services, while Avamere at Roswell offers assisted living and memory care.

“Our staff need support now more than ever to provide the care our seniors deserve,” stated Nora Lucero, Avamere at Rio Rancho’s Executive Director. “We are sincerely thankful to The University of New Mexico for this generous donation.”

“COVID-19 has separated the world physically, but we are all uniting with one purpose to serve those who need us most,” expressed Avamere at Roswell’s Executive Director Jennifer Griffith. “Thank you to The University of New Mexico for helping equip our staff with much-needed PPE” (personal protective equipment).

Avamere’s Chief Medical Officer Elizabeth Burns expressed her appreciation for the many donations Avamere has received, including PPE from The University of New Mexico, where she earned her medical degree.

“Many people have led heroic efforts to obtain and, at times, even create PPE,” Burns stated. “It’s crucial that we arm our staff with the proper equipment to safely care for our residents and patients. I am grateful for Craig Keif’s call to action and UNM’s creativity and generosity at this time. New Mexicans have a deep history in caring for their people and it will take communities like ours joining together to help in slowing the acceleration of the virus.”
