Avanta's Olympic event raises £6,600 for Sparks

A charity dinner and auction in aid of Sparks, sponsored by serviced office operator, Avanta, has raised more than £6,600 for the children's medical research charity.

Hosted by Olympic rowing legend, Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, the event, which took place at Vanilla, the stylish West End bar and restaurant in Great Titchfield Street in the first week of March, saw 70 guests indulge in a fantastic three course meal in a convivial and fun atmosphere.

Following dinner, Stuart Storey - one of the most recognisable voices on television sport - conducted a Q&A session with Sir Matthew and then acted as auctioneer for a range of special sports-themed auction items. These included lunch with Jason Leonard, the most capped rugby player of all time; rowing memorabilia signed by Olympic legends; Ferrari and Lamborghini driving experiences and an opportunity to sample the delights of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

"This Olympic-theme event has helped to kick off our fundraising activities in support of Sparks for 2011," comments David Alberto, Avanta's Managing Director, "And both Sir Matthew and Stuart Storey pulled out all the stops to help us to top the £6,500 we raised for Sparks at our Rugby-themed dinner, held last year."

"This event and others like it will help us to fund crucial medical research into a vast range of conditions that affect children and babies," says Ikram Dahman, Director of Development at Sparks, "We're very grateful to Avanta and Sir Matthew Pinsent for supporting Sparks and helping us to have a positive impact on children's health in the future."
