Aveda Institute San Antonio Cut-A-Thon Supporting Marrow Match

Online, May 29, 2010 (Newswire.com) - May 27, 2010, San Antonio Texas - Aveda Institute San Antonio is sponsoring a cut-a-thon on June 13th, 2010 at their 250 E. Grayson location in the Pearl Brewery complex. Cosmetology students will provide $10 haircuts to the public (including children age 6 and older) from 10am - 2pm. Students are under the supervision of licensed instructors. Donations will be accepted for hand and chair massages as well as make-up touchups. 100% of the proceeds will go to Marrow Match.

Marrow Match is a non-profit organization devoted to growing the 'Be the Match' registry. They provide education and raise awareness of the need for donors, helping save the lives of those in need of a bone marrow transplant due to leukemia or other life-threatening illness. Every day 10,000 people search the national registry to find their match. People of mixed heritage and minorities are under-represented on the registry and have only a 20% chance of finding a match. Donor match is based upon similar racial and ethnic background (not blood type) and 70% of patients in need of a transplant will not find a match within their own family. Marrow Match volunteers will be present at the cut-a-thon to educate and recruit viable, dedicated and ethnically diverse donors into the Marrow Match registry.
