Award-Winning Author Dick C. Waters Publishes Sixth Novel
Peoria Arizona, January 31, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Dick C. Waters released his sixth novel under the pen name Dixie Waters.
Dick felt his love story might have a better chance of being read and mentioned to others if authored under a woman’s name. Why? He researched the romance genre in Romance Writers of America (RWA) noting that he could not identify one man’s name out of the over 200 names listed in The Honor Roll section. The authors listed there had to have appeared on one of the following best-seller lists; New York Times Top 25, Publishers Weekly Top 10, or USA Today Top 50.
One of Dick's readers commented that Dick could be the next Robert B. Parker. Noting, he has a similar writing style, using short chapters from different points of view, including the antagonist.
Patrick, Reader
When questioned by friends about his decision to use a different pen name, his response was “…I have learned it is hard enough to have your book discovered, but why not give it the best chance of being read? You can’t have a best-selling novel if nobody knows about it, and most importantly, buys it. I need readers to read it first and hopefully like the story and the hot scenes enough to tell their friends about it. Look what word of mouth did for the 50 Shades trilogy. I think the name ‘Dixie’ has a better chance of being mentioned.”
You Complete My Heart is about two teenagers, Nick Carter and Jeannie Brady, who meet and fall madly in love. Although they live only a block away, they are physically separated by a town line and attend rival high schools. If that wasn’t enough to prevent them being close, Nick’s stepdad intercepts Jeannie’s steamy love note to Nick. He forbids Nick to see or talk to Jeannie again. Abuse, peer pressure, lies, deceit, along with a beautiful cheerleader, fueled by raging hormones, interferes with their destiny. You complete my heart is indicative of the way this true love story ends.
Dick’s other five novels are the Scott Tucker mystery/suspense series. His seventh book is an anthology of some of his award-winning flash fiction. He self-published all of these in eBook and print formats under Dick C. Waters.
The Scott Tucker series novels are all set in the mid 60’s in the Boston area. In the first novel, Branded for Murder, Scott is a Harvard undergrad, and needs to help find his cousin’s killer, when authorities confirmed she was murdered by the New England Strangler. The second novel is Serial Separation, which reveals women kidnapping and then finally killing young hockey players. The third novel is Scent of Gardenia which involves rich young men disappearing on the island of Bermuda. The lack of ransom demands, leads authorities to believe the men are being kept for other purposes. The fourth and fifth novels are the same story line - Fragrance of Revenge is about a young woman being kept in an institution. When she finally learns about her family and the power of her beauty, she seeks revenge. Foreplay for Murder is the more adult version. Scott manages to get too close to danger in each of these novels.
In addition to his novels, twenty-one of his flash fiction stories have won awards in competition and are either published, or soon to be published.
