The author of a book that is set entirely in northern Virginia will participate in a Book Mart at Historic Blenheim on Feb. 27, from noon to 4 p.m.
Jessica James will sign copies of her award-winning book, Shades of Gray: A Novel of the Civil War in Virginia, along with authors of Civil War books on a range of diverse topics.
Released in January 2008, Shades of Gray is the recipient of numerous awards, and has climbed to #1 on Amazon's Best-Seller list in the romance/historical category, temporarily overtaking the classic Gone with the Wind. The novel has been widely praised by historians for its balanced portrayal of the War Between the States, and by romance readers for its emotional description of the love that develops between the two main characters.
The book review site Literarily said of Shades of Gray, "Andrea and Hunter are like a Virginian, Civil War-era Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy," while the Book Review Journal said, "You cannot leave this book unchanged in your understanding of the souls of the Civil War."
The Civil War Book Mart event is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds from all books sold will go toward ongoing work at the Civil War Interpretive Center located at 3610 Old Lee Highway, Fairfax.
