Award-Winning Marriage Equality Documentary "We Do" Picked Up for Distribution
Dallas, TX, February 9, 2016 (Newswire.com) - – CT Media Distribution has acquired the distribution rights to Rebecca Rice’s award-winning documentary film “We Do.”
“We Do” reveals the stories of three LGBT couples and their journeys for legal recognition of their relationships before and after the landmark Supreme Court ruling legalizing marriage equality across the United States on June 26, 2015. The film was produced and directed by independent filmmaker Rebecca Rice.
Rebecca added, "It can be so easy to take marriage equality for granted. It is critically important that we do not forget our LGBT history."

When asked why she was inspired to make the film, Rebecca stated, “I wanted to preserve some of the stories of LGBT couples who worked so hard to legalize their unions in the period of time between Civil Unions and the Supreme Court ruling of June 26, 2015, which made marriage equality the law of the land. I firmly believe that, in just a few years, our unions and our families will be commonly accepted by most Americans. People will look back, as they do with interracial marriage, and assume that marriage rights have always been enjoyed by everyone. I believe it is important that we do not forget what couples went through prior to the Supreme Court ruling.”
“We Do” features an introduction by MCC pastor and LGBT activist Rev. Jim Mitulski who was acting senior pastor at Dallas’ Cathedral of Hope at the time of filming. Mitulski provides the back story of gay and lesbian couples and their striving to formalize their unions before marriage equality. His interview is followed by interweaving segments of Leta and Anne Kalfas and their son Jaxson Sharpe of Denver, Colorado, Michael Robinson and Michael Serrecchia of Dallas, Texas, and Viviana and Mariel Baluja of Austin, Texas.
Michael Robinson and Michael Serrecchia had a Civil Union at the time of filming but have since legally married post June 26, 2015. Leta and Anne were married legally in San Francisco while Viviana and Mariel were legally married in New York City.
Rebecca added, “It can be so easy to take marriage equality for granted. It is critically important that we do not forget our LGBT history.”
“We Do” was honored with the Shawn A. Moore Award from Ft. Worth’s QCinema Film Festival (2015) and was an official selection of aGLIFF, the Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (2015) and Palm Springs Cinema Diverse (2015).
