Award Winning Mover Offers Tips On Potty Training Your Chihuahua

As with any canine companion, the training of a Chihuahua is important. Perhaps even more so for this little guy because they are typically an indoor pet, at least this is where they are most happy.

As with any canine companion, the training of a Chihuahua is important. Perhaps even more so for this little guy because they are typically an indoor pet, at least this is where they are most happy. So, it is to everyone' benefit for them to learn early on the house is not a toilet. "My Chihuahua loves to go outside just long enough to handle her business and get a few minutes of sun, other than that it's all indoors for her," says Move Consultant, Heather Evans, of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, Sacramento.

1. Dogs pay attention not necessarily to what you say, but how you say it. Chihuahuas understand maybe 25-30 words, other than that it is all in the tome of your voice and your body language. Yelling at your little guy is not a productive way to get results you a are seeking.

2. Be consistent!! Take your dog outside at the same time everyday, don't wait for accident and then be corrective. It is better to be proactive and avoid nasty accidents.

3. Again, I reiterate do not berate or yell at your dog. Just like you would not do that to a child or another friend, what makes your dog any different?

4. Pay attention to your pet. Locking them in a carrier is not the same as training them, and this should only be done when you are gone and can't watch her. Other than that, be mindful of your dog's activities and take them outside at the first sign of them "needing to go" ie, sniffing around, wagging their tale at the door. Barking etc.

These are just general ideas and ways to make life more enjoyable for you and your furry friend. Of course, there may be things that match your dog's personality better than others but most importantly don't give up, and never ever be mean to the little guy if he has an accident.
