B. Slade To Donate Song "Sandy" Proceeds to Mother Who Lost Two Children
Online, November 15, 2012 (Newswire.com) - B. Slade, a local singer and perfomer in Los Angeles has written a song [url:http://bslade.bandcamp.com/track/sandy] inspired by the tragic story of a mother, Glenda Moore, whose two boys were swept out of her arms in the east coast superstorm Sandy. She was left screaming on the street for twelve hours with neighbors refusing to help her. Police later found the bodies of Glenda Moore's two sons -- Connor, 4, and Brandon, 2. B. Slade does not know Glenda Moore but was inspired by her story -- and is performing the song in his current "Sex Drugs and Sushi" tour and donating all proceeds from the sale of the single to Glenda Moore and her husband in Staten Island.
Glenda is a nurse and her husband, Damian, is a sanitation worker who resided in the Great Kills area of Staten Island with their two sons. Her husband was at work in Brooklyn apparently when the storm hit. As the house was not in an evacuation zone, Moore remained at home until she became frightened and rushed out of the house to take the kids to her mother's home in Brooklyn.
News reports indicate that her car got stuck around 6:10 PM. Upon the car stalling, the frightened mother grabbed her children tight to her in each arm and began knocking on doors for assistance.
Mrs. Moore battled to hold on to the boys but they were sucked away right out of her arms amidst the storm's hard-breaking waves and stern winds. She knocked on door after neighbor's door, but was repeatedly told: 'I don't know you. I can't help'. Mrs Moore then tried another neighbor, but when she rang the bell they turned off the lights and refused to answer. Moore spent the next twelve hours sobbing on the streets of her once-beloved neighborhood.
The boys were found about 20 yards apart from each other, under water, covered by trees and debris, law enforcement sources told the New York Post. After the storm cleared on Tuesday morning, officers, dogs and other searchers - armed with shovels, sticks and pitchforks - had been scouring those marshlands off Father Capodanno. The boys' father Damien was at work with the city council when the tragedy occurred.
Since last week, there has been a steady stream of gifts and other support for the family and their tragic loss. When B. Slade was asked about the project he stated, "I only hope this song inspires us to treat one another with more care and love -- before these types of tragedies have to occur."
