Bags Inc. is delivering the luggage and trip-related items for Pope Francis, 78, and his large traveling party during most of the pontiff’s three-city U.S. visit this week. Among those traveling with the pope are his security force and a large international media pool.

"We feel honored that Pope Francis and those traveling with him placed their trust in Bags to safely deliver the essentials required on this historic trip. We understand and embrace our great responsibility this week."

Bags’ services began Tuesday afternoon with a pickup of luggage at Joint Base Andrews military base, outside Washington, D.C. Bags said it will use a total of three large trucks to securely transport the papal party’s luggage during the six-day U.S. visit.

The company motto for Bags is “Make Travel Easier.” Bob Miles, President of Bags Inc., takes that mantra seriously, especially while providing services to the world leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

“We feel honored that Pope Francis and those traveling with him placed their trust in Bags to safely deliver the essentials required on this historic trip. We understand and embrace our great responsibility this week,” said Miles, 54, who helps lead a company that handles more than 5 million checked bags per year in about 250 U.S. cities. “All of us at Bags always strive for the highest level of service, same as our goal for every customer who entrusts us with their luggage.”

In addition to Pope Francis’ visits to the White House and the nation’s capital, the pope’s itinerary includes stops in New York City and Philadelphia, from which he will depart Sunday night for his return to Rome.

The logistics of delivering luggage for a pope and his entourage are not simple, said a spokesman for Bags, which was selected for this service by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bags said the company is complying fully with rigorous security requirements for handing and transporting baggage through numerous stops between Washington and New York. Those requirements include collaboration with the Secret Service and the Swiss Guard, which is traditionally responsible for the security of the pope during his travels and in Vatican City.

Pope Francis is the highest profile client for which Bags has handled luggage. The company has previously delivered baggage for Super Bowl guests and international soccer teams in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Bags also handles luggage for cruise passengers throughout the U.S. and certain ports in Europe, top resorts and hospitality companies, convention centers and group travel services for numerous Fortune 1000 company executives.
