Bahrain To Expand Laboratory Management Standards

Global Manager Group (Icon-GMG) conducted ISO /IEC 17025 foundation training program for leading government and private laboratories in Middle East.

Foundation course for ISO 17025:2005 was attended by delegates from laboratories of Middle East leading organizations like Aluminum Bahrain (ALBA), Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), Gulf Petrochemical Industrial Company (GPIC), Al Hoty Analytical Services, Bahrain National Gas Company (BANAGAS), Public Commission for Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife, Ministry of Works (MoW - Bahrain) and other leading independent laboratories.

Director at Ministry of Works Bahrain, Sameer Abdul-Karim Affouni, during his short address to delegates emphasized on the importance of having world-class Laboratories Management System in all laboratories in Bahrain.

"All laboratories in Bahrain must get accredited for ISO 17025 to ensure that the test results reported by these laboratories are accepted all around the world," said Sameer Abdel-Karim Affouni.

The training program was conducted by Director of Global Manager Group and lead tutor for ISO 17025, Devang Jhaveri. "An ISO 17025 accredited laboratories have a definite edge over competitors. Accreditation to internationally accepted criteria provides complete confidence in the quality of services provided by testing laboratories and global acceptance of laboratory reports," said Devang.

Mobin Sheikh, Director / Principal Consultant at Infovision Consultants W. L. L. said at the training, "Bahrain is executing various major infrastructure projects and authorities in Bahrain want to assure that quality is not-compromised; ISO 17025 provides a complete surety to all stakeholders that test are performed as per International Standards and proper test methods, calibrated equipments and trained testing and sampling staff are employed by Laboratories in Bahrain to report the quality of material used in infrastructure project."

"We all want a prosperous Bahrain with sustainable economy and this training is one small step in this direction," said Mobin Sheikh.

The course was designed in such a way to increase participants' understanding of the ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. Using interactive workshops, tutorials and case studies, where the participants gained the understanding of the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. The course provided detailed guidance on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the structuring of Quality System Documentation, implementation steps and Laboratory Accreditation requirements.
