Baltimore County and Microwave Networks Upgrade Public Safety System
Online, March 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Microwave Networks Incorporated (MNI), a leading provider of wireless solutions that enable the evolution of next-generation fixed and mobile broadband networks, has successfully partnered with Baltimore County to upgrade their existing communication infrastructure. The new digital system greatly improves reliability, extends coverage, and increases interoperability with other county services.
The upgrade is part of a $70 Million project that included an overhaul of the entire public safety radio system as well as improvements to their current 911 center. Nine years ago, in the aftermath of one of the region's largest snowstorms, the county realized their existing network was not able to effectively handle such a large scale emergency situation. By moving to a new system, the county was able to take advantage of new technology that is not only more reliable and secure, but also allows a larger coverage area. In addition to providing highly reliable Proteus microwave radios to serve as the core of the network, MNI was responsible for path design and engineering as well as radio integration, staging, installation, and supervision services.
During the radio system's factory integration and customer acceptance testing at their Stafford facility, Jerry Hulburt - MNI's Vice President of Customer Care and Technical Services commented "A complex network like this with multiple rings, a variety of third party equipment, and unique traffic routing requirements really highlights the value that Microwave Networks brings to the table. Our extensive experience and understanding of critical Public Safety systems puts us in an unmatched position of added value beyond the average microwave supplier." Mr. Hulburt went on to say "Baltimore County recognized MNI's unique abilities and was able to take advantage of them to ensure their network exceeds the high standards required by every Public Safety organization."
