Bands Succeed In And Out Of Sheena Metal's Carnyville

Weekly showcases at The Other Door BAR in NoHo are hosted by Sheena Metal, the LATalkRadio personality who is happy to spread word of the artists' triumphs.

Recording artists who play the "Carnyville" event at NoHo's The Other Door BAR each Thursday night are enjoying success in a variety of areas within the industry. "The bands and solo artists who play here all make great music and their success in the marketplace is often equally exciting," says promoter Sheena Metal, who books the acts and hosts the evenings.

In one example, she points to Freebo, noted bass virtuoso (and tuba player!), who has worked with Bonnie Raitt, Neil Young, Loudon Wainwright III, The Runaways, Ringo Starr, John Mayall, Dwight Yoakam, and Simon Lynge. He is also a judge in the current Goodnight Kiss Music, Song & Video Competition.

Freebo's recent show at The Other Door BAR celebrated the release of his new solo album, "Something to Believe" with a terrific duo performance from the artist and his bass player of choice, Chad Lowe. Photographers and videographers moved through the performance space for the full set.

In another type of success story, Harley Jay appeared on Broadway in the lead of "Rent" and continued in that role for the national tour of the musical. In addition, he starred in the touring production of the musical "Miss Saigon."

Video games are also a platform for music success stories, as in the news from Dom Liberati who has had his music featured in the extremely popular interactive games, "Guitar Hero 5" and "Rock Band."

Foul Play is an extremely tight rock band that fuses elements of musical comedy and the theater of shock. Already having the most appearances at "Carnyville," the band has also appeared in an eyebrow-raising music video with three stars of the porn world: Ron Jeremy, Sunny Leone, and Cali Nova.

Robbie Rist, who plays bass in Nice Guy Eddie, has 81 actor credits on the Internet Movie Database, including his work as a child star ("Love American Style," "Brady Bunch," and "Bionic Woman") and such recent releases as the "Final Fantasy XIII" and "Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring" video games.

"The goal with 'Carnyville' is to create a unique party each week with artists and bands of all genres," states Metal. "We aim for a totally inclusive vibe at these events, with audiences coming from every sector of the city."
