BBA Students Of Usha Martin Academy, Ranchi On A Multiple Industry Visit To Jamshedpur

Management students of the BBA-IV batch of Usha Martin Academy, Ranchi campus, visited Jamshedpur as a part of their industrial interface programme.

Management students of the BBA-IV batch of Usha Martin Academy, Ranchi campus, visited Jamshedpur as a part of their industrial interface programme. The future managers from UMARanchi took management tips from professionals from three completely different fields.

The first stop for the UMA Ranchi youngsters was Lalls Foods Limited. Lalls is a known brand on the food processing map of Jamshedpur, having made deep inroads into the pickles, sauces, jams and juices business. The eager students were shown the production plans for the day, stock and raw materials storage, movement and inventory control, and supply chain management.

"The heads of various departments briefed us and also showed us the procurement of raw materials from nearby vendors. As a BBA student, I learnt a lot about the food processing business," said Gaurav Prasad, first-year student.

The next stop was the industrial unit of the famed Mew Suspensions, a 36 year old company that started out as a manufacturing unit for Leaf Spring and Coil Spring in Kolkata in the year 1972 as part of the Coventry Spring group. The Jamshedpur unit of Coventry Spring was taken over by Mew Suspensions in 1998. The Management students of UMA were exposed to labour allocation at various work stations, issues-resolution in the huge industrial unit, best manufacturing practices and safety measures adopted during the production run. In the last leg of the Industry visit, the sixty-odd students of UMA Ranchi were taken to Hiko engineering Ltd., Jamshedpur.

"It was a completely new experience for all of us," observed Rupa Yadav, final-year student. "The advantage of being in Usha Martin Academy is that we are exposed to various world-class facilities and industrial units of the Usha Martin Group. But it's always great to experience a new work culture altogether."

The future managers from UMA Ranchi enjoyed the journey to and from Jamshedpur. On the way back, they quizzed the accompanying faculty members incessantly on various nuances of business production. While it was an exhausting and action-packed day, all the youngsters were looking forward to more such organised outings by UMA Ranchi.
