BBQ Sauce Company Supports The Community With BBQ Sauce Chili

BBQ Sauce company, Hobblin Hog, joined forces with 54 other chili teams at the 6th annual Guns N Hoses Chili Cook Off to raise funds for the September Fun which provides scholarships for the children of police, firefighters and EMTs.

Hobblin Hog BBQ Sauce is pleased to have participated in the Guns N Hoses Chili Cook Off which raises scholarship money for the children of police, firefighters and EMTS in October.

The event is hosted by radio personalities from "The Corey and Jay Show" who began a fund after the devastating 9-11 attacks. Their "September Fund" is funded by money raised from this annual chili cook off.

The 6th annual chili cook off was held October 29th and featured a Halloween Costume contest as well as prizes for various chili categories.

Chili teams filed into the Clear Channel Metroplex parking lot beginning at 6:00 am and were to set up their sites and equipment, cook their chili completely on the site, and begin serving at 11:00 am. Over 55 teams participated including Hobblin Hog who served BBQ Chili.

"We really appreciate what these folks do and wanted to show our support to them," said Carrie Gibson, part owner of Hobblin Hog BBQ Sauce. "Our team had a great time, and we enjoyed showcasing our newest bbq sauce in our chili. Everyone was so friendly. It was great fun."

Though they didn't win any prizes, the Hobblin Hog team enjoyed meeting folks, talking about chili, barbeque, and the community.

Contestants competed for best chili made with pumpkin, best chili with the strangest ingredient, best name and other categories. One team swore their chili was made with kangaroo sausage. Some were super hot, others just delicious.

Being served chili and serving chili to those in costume was a real treat and provided for many opportunities to strike up conversation. It was a community-building event filled with fun and chili, with the Razorbacks game blaring in the background.

"The biggest challenge we faced," continued Carrie, "was figuring out how to cook five gallons of chili and not burn it. Well, that and putting up our brand new canopy. That was a real challenge!"

Asked if they would be participating in next year's cook off Carrie replied, "Miss the chili? Never."

If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation to the September fund yourself, you can do so at any Metropolitan Bank location.

Hobblin Hog BBQ Sauce is a new line of sauces and rubs available from their site. The line currently includes 2 rubs, Cajun seasoning, crawfish boil, and three barbeque sauces, all offered by Pat Kelly, former owner of Gators Barge and Grill in North Little Rock, Arkansas. His many years of barbeque coalesce into this line of seasonings, rubs and bbq sauces.
