Beckett Releases Debut Single 'Weirdo'
New EP Produced by Simple Plan Lead Singer Pierre Bouvier
LOS ANGELES, October 28, 2021 (Newswire.com) - The dictionary defines "weirdo" as a person whose dress or behavior seems strange or eccentric. Throw music and a be yourself attitude into the mix, and the definition describes Beckett to a 'T'. The 17-year-old California-bred singer and songwriter released the introspective yet catchy "Weirdo" today, a song he co-wrote with Pierre Bouvier and Chuck Comeau of Simple Plan halfway through the pandemic lockdown. Listen HERE.
"What weirdo means to me is that it's okay to be different and weird," said Beckett. "It's giving the middle finger to bullies or people who make fun of you for being yourself, because everyone at some point in their lives has felt like a weirdo in some way. I think in 2021 we have to learn to stop the hate and just love each other because that will make the world a happier place."
Beckett's younger brother, Finn, was paired with Bouvier to play a round of golf just over a year ago. Beckett convinced Finn to give Bouvier a CD of 17 songs he had written and recorded. It only took one listen for him to recognize the talent and unique quality of Beckett's voice. Soon after, the two paired up and began working on an EP.
"When I heard Beckett's music, I was immediately blown away by his voice and by how musically mature he sounded," said Bouvier. "I was also shocked that he lived just around the corner from me. Beckett and I poured a lot of sweat and tears into this project and I truly can't wait for the world to hear it. He has incredible talent and I believe he was born for the stage. I'm extremely proud of what we created together."
They titled the initial collection of songs Weirdo, an eight-cut EP that encompasses Beckett's unique vocals and Pierre's catchy hooks, creating a fresh, genre-busting sound that will keep listeners wanting to hit the "repeat" button over and over. The debut EP will be released early in 2022, and plans are in the works to tour North America and Europe in support of the music.
About Beckett:
Born and raised in the small Southern California town of Ojai, where being weird and different is embraced, Beckett was singing as soon as he could talk. As a toddler, he fell in love with the sound of Elvis Presley's voice. He begged his mom to play Elvis's records every day, which she did, along with the Beatles, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Sam Cooke, The Animals and many others. Beckett became a musical sponge, fascinated with every decade, every chord, every song. It was obvious to his family and friends that this kid lived and breathed music. He jumped at every opportunity to sing in front of people - talent shows, open mic nights - he even sang at the famous Libbey Bowl alongside Eric Burdon of the Animals and Dave Mason of Traffic. He picked up the guitar and started writing his own songs at the age of 14. In 2019, he recorded 17 original songs, which quickly circulated around the tight-knit community.
Inspired by a plethora of artists - from Big Mama Thorton to Billie Eilish - from Elvis to Billie Joe Armstrong, Beckett's melodies sear the senses and his lyrics are simple yet poignant. They won't let up or leave the memory any time soon.
