BEMOSA Calls for Joint Industry Research to Review Airport Security Regulation, at EU Workshop

The workshop, which will focus on applying human factors to airport security, will discuss the implications of operation, legislation and training of airport employees, as well as avenues for further research on regulation and legislation.

The BEMOSA consortium, a European-wide research project aimed at improving security in airports, will present a set of recommendations for joint aviation industry research to review airport security regulation at an open workshop on applying human factors to airport security in Belgium on Wednesday, May 25, 2011.

The workshop will discuss the implications of operation, legislation and training of airport employees, as well as further avenues for research.

The agenda of the open workshop on airport security includes:

- Challenges in Airport Security - David Ryder, ACI Europe Security Committee

- Challenges in Airport Security Training - Patricia Reverdy, ECAC

- Trends in EU Regulation & Legislation - Filip Cornelis, European Commission

- Introduction to the BEMOSA Project - Prof. Alan Kirschenbaum, BEMOSA Consortium

"The key to effective airport security requires a cooperative effort for joint industry research that will generate the optimum mix of technology and human factors that go beyond regulations and protocol," said the Israel Technion's Prof. Alan Kirschenbaum, a world expert in disaster management and initiator and coordinator of BEMOSA.

The event is specifically designed to meet the needs of airport security professionals, airport management officials, human resources and operations, providers of airport security services, providers of airport security training services, public officials and policy makers.

The free-of-charge workshop will take place at the offices of the European Commission, Rue du Champs de Mars 21 in Brussels in room SDR1, Building CDMA (Floor -1).
