Benefits for Utilities Sector Map Users as Emapsite Responds to OS Policy Change

A radical overhaul of the way Ordnance Survey data is distributed through partners has given emapsite more flexibility in how it can deliver its added value data management tools.

Leading geoportal emapsite is bringing customers in the utilities sector the benefits of a radical shake-up in the way Ordnance Survey data is distributed from this month.

emapsite is an award winning Ordnance Survey partner, recognised for providing added value services on top of cost effective data provisioning.

Changes to the national mapping agency's licensing model now give users the opportunity to adopt emapsite's flexible and innovative data management and access solutions with a reduction in total cost of ownership.

emapsite believes the restructured model with its focus on delivering value will help to grow the online use of high quality geographic information, particularly in utilities that are increasingly geodata-hungry.

These organisations will typically have diverse or extensive interests and be seeking to drive operational efficiencies in asset management.

James Cutler, emapsite CEO, said: "These far-reaching changes are fabulous news for our customers, especially large users of mapping data and those looking to extract maximum value from their portfolios in the utilities sector. The restructuring means customers get standard Ordnance Survey prices in addition to emapsite's renowned added value data processing, hosting, licence and project management tools. This makes life easier for those seeking the company wide data access, management, visualisation and provisioning arrangements that emapsite's project centric tools deliver. Our hosting options, flexible processing, clear licensing and renewal systems, sub-contractor control and built-in links for access to public sector data provide significant direct and indirect benefits beyond data storage, distribution and management headaches. We anticipate a rise in the use of our web mapping services as a result of the restructuring, particularly among end users keen to find real value in the current economic climate."

James Brayshaw, Ordnance Survey's Director of Sales and Market Development, welcomed emapsite's decision to passport the benefits of the reseller licensing changes to customers. He said: "emapsite focuses attention on innovation and adding value to the customer's business processes, rather than reinventing the wheel and this is demonstrated in their outstanding service and continued growth in challenging times."

The changes, effective from 18 November 2010, involve almost all Ordnance Survey products including the flagship OS MasterMap Topography Layer.

At the same time, emapsite is expanding its existing portfolio to include the OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network Layer, OS VectorMap Local (VML) and Profile Plus products.

While this month's changes are focused on delivering more cost effective data access for users with CAD, GIS and other tools that depend on high value geographic data, they are not the last. A second set of changes will go live early in 2011 for printed products and plans and for online viewing services. These will further transform the terms under which customers can gain access to precisely the services and products they need.
