Best-selling Self-help Author Publishes Latest Book Through Amazon KDP
Online, May 7, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Following the rapidly growing trend of authors taking back control over their work, Jim Donovan author of the international best-sellers "Handbook to a Happier Life" and "This is Your Life, Not a Dress Rehearsal" chose to release his latest book, "The Little Book That Can Change Your Life" into Amazon's Kindle Direct program, bypassing traditional publishing options.
Since the book is a brief 6,200 words, about forty printed pages, Donovan felt that Digital was the way to go and the advantages of the Amazon Kindle Direct (KDP) program make it the obvious choice for the author.
With this book Donovan is hoping to attract a younger audience who may be more likely to read a short, easy to read book than your typical two hundred page tome.
"Digital publishing," he says, "is ideally suited to shorter length books which, at least in non-fiction, is perceived as a benefit."
"Since people generally read these types of books for their information, as opposed to reading for pleasure, the faster one can absorb the ideas, the better. This applies even more so to personal development and business books"
"There are huge changes taking in place in the publishing industry," explains Donovan, citing the alternative publishing and distribution systems and the number of titles being published each year.
"When I published my first book, back in 1996, there were about 75,000 titles a year being published. Today, that number is expected to exceed a million!"
With the emergence of electronic tablets and distribution outlets like Amazon's Kindle Direct, the independent author/publisher is now able reach a wider audience. It is possible for anyone to publish their book and, with some creative marketing, develop a sizable following. No longer is distribution controlled by a few giant publishing houses and bookstore chains. Of course, the author is still faced with the, sometimes daunting, task of marketing and publicity.
