Bestselling Scottish writer, Sara Sheridan, has received a professional development grant from the Scottish Arts Council. The historical novelist will use the money to research the subject of a new book that she will start to write in the autumn and to develop press contacts. 'I don't know what I am going to write next,' Sheridan says. 'Fiction writers need time to develop a story so this kind of support is vital.' Sheridan works in a variety of genres including children's books as well as adult fiction and in 2011 has two upcoming publications - an historical novel at HarperCollins, "Secret of the Sands" and a children's book at Chicken House, "I'm Me". 'It's wonderful to have this kind of support,' she said, 'mainstream writers don't always look to the Arts Council for funding, but they have been wonderful.'
