Better World Advertising Receives American Graphic Design Award for Take Pride Leave Cigarettes Campaign
The anti-smoking campaign was selected from over 8,000 entries and designed for LGBQ women of color.
Brooklyn, NY, September 22, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Graphic Design USA has named Better World Advertising (BWA) as a winner of the 2014 American Graphic Design Award for its work on the Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes social marketing campaign. The campaign was selected from over 8,000 entries submitted from design firms, ad agencies, corporations and nonprofits throughout the country.
Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes is an anti-smoking campaign developed by BWA for the Chicago Department of Public Health. “Data show that LGBTQ women of color are often less likely to even try to quit smoking,” said Quenjana Adams, of the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). The campaign, which targets young LGBQ women of color in Chicago, raises awareness about the negative health effects of smoking and provides resources to help smokers to quit. Adams added, “We are proud that the Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes campaign celebrates positive images of young LGBQ women of color in a healthy relationship, free of tobacco use.”

Partnering with the Chicago Department of Public Health to create this groundbreaking anti-smoking campaign is in itself an honor. To receive such a prestigious award while helping to reduce smoking among young LGBQ women of color makes our collaborative experience even more rewarding.”
This award brings the total number of American Graphic Design Awards bestowed upon BWA to nine. The agency was previously honored by Graphic Design USA for campaigns addressing suicide, binge drinking, suicide, foster care and other issues of importance to BWA and its team.
