Costa Rica is full of adventure, beauty and fun, so don't wait any longer. Come to the Garden of Eden in paradise for an unforgettable adventure with the entire family.

One of the most beautiful and popular places to visit while in Costa Rica is the area of La Fortuna. In the region of San Carlos, you will find this tropical paradise where many people have visited and fallen in love. This area is loaded with tropical rain forests, famous flora and fauna, hot springs and natural beauty that include the Arenal Volcano.

Many people take the popular tours that the area offers to see waterfalls and caves, plus bungee jumping, horseback riding, waterfall rappelling, white water rafting, hiking, hanging bridges and much more.

The town of La Fortuna itself, located about two hours northwest of the San Jose airport (SJO), is a small and popular place where you will get a great feeling when visiting as if it has some kind of mystical or spiritual power. This area is where you will be able to see many of the famous wildlife you hear or read about in books that include the howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, hummingbirds, iguanas and butterflies.

This is the one region of Costa Rica that also offers a large lake. Lake Arenal is a magnificent part of this country and many people do not know about the great fishing opportunities available on this grand lake. Fresh water fishing is an extremely popular sport, hobby or pastime for many people and done more often than salt water fishing due to the inexpensive nature of fishing on a nearby lake, river or stream.

Unlike the Largemouth Bass, the best known fresh water sport fish of North America, Lake Arenal holds one of the most aggressive species of fish in the world, the Blue Guapote. This large species of Cichlid is known for its aggressive nature, beauty and size. The Guapote can reach weights of more than 8 pounds and like its relative, the Peacock Bass, it has everything an angler can wish for. Guapote are strong fighters and considered a prized catch. Peacock Bass are not found on the lake, but though they are refered to as Bass, they are actually Cichlids like the Oscar. The big differences between Cichlids and a Largemouth Bass are that while Bass are actually in the Sunfish family, they tend to also be night feeders, less colorful and less aggressive than Cichlids. Most Cichlids have teeth and attack their pray voraciously.

Lake Arenal is one of the best places in the world to catch a Blue Guapote. There are several other species to catch on the lake. The Machaca is a member of the Piranha family and have large teeth to show. These fish are similar to a small Tarpon with their jumps and ability to escape a hook. Machaca do not reach large sizes, but are fantastic fun. There is also another smaller species of Guapote found on the lake, the Jaguar Guapote and there is plenty of large Blue Tilapia, but tricking one of these Tilapias to bite can be a challenge.
