Bill Ten Give One: Dunlap Law Partners With UnBoundRVA to Provide Free Legal Services to Disadvantaged Entrepreneurs

Dunlap Law Gives Legal Counsel to UnBoundRVA Entrepreneurs

During the Virginia State Bar's Pro Bono Week, Dunlap Law PLC is pleased to announce the launch of Bill Ten Give One, an innovative new program that grants pro-bono legal services to entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds. For every 10 hours Dunlap Law bills to its clients, it will give away one hour of legal counsel to a hopeful, bootstrapping business owner nurtured by UnBoundRVA.

UnBoundRVA provides workshops and classes that empower individuals from low-income backgrounds to open their own businesses and transform their lives. Since 2014, the non-profit has launched 12 Richmond-area businesses with the support of volunteers and community partners.

Founded in 2015, Dunlap Law is the first Virginia or D.C. law firm to earn Certified B Corp status. As a B Corp, balancing profit with social and environmental performance is baked into the company’s business model. The B Corp movement is a global community of businesses that acknowledge our mutual interdependence and use the power of business to build a regenerative economy that creates shared and durable prosperity for everyone. Dunlap Law is proud to be one of only 21 B Corp law firms nationwide and among the world's best companies such as Patagonia, Ben & Jerry's, Athleta, Cabot Creamery, King Arthur Flour, and Allbirds.

In 2015, the United Nations Member States adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that set the vision for our world as it can be in 2030. Bill Ten Give One supports SDG #1 – no poverty, SDG #5 – gender equality, and SDG #8 – decent work and economic growth.

With the Bill Ten Give One program, CEO Tricia Dunlap commits Dunlap Law’s future to support the SDGs and build a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable economy.

“At its best, business in America has always been an expression of freedom, a path to wealth and prosperity, and a force for good for the larger society,” said Dunlap. “In our cynical era, that idea might seem old-fashioned but at Dunlap Law, we believe it. The Bill One Give One program is one way we hold ourselves accountable to that vision.”

Though Dunlap Law will formally launch Bill Ten Give One on Jan. 1, 2020, using its total hours billed in 2019 as a baseline for 2020 giving, Tricia wanted to start helping UnBoundRVA’s entrepreneurs right away. In September, Dunlap Law welcomed six new clients as recipients of the Bill Ten Give One commitment. Dunlap Law is proud to represent: Smoke & Soul BBQ and Catering LLC, Van the Man Lawn Care and Pressure Washing LLC, River City Flame Sauces & Rubs, Just Kidding Event Childcare LLC, the Fit Beard Company LLC, and Chaotic Good LLC.
