Billionaires Playground - A Quiet Hampshire Village

The world's 16th-richest man is preparing to buy the 2,000 acre Linkenholt estate near Andover, Hampshire, for £25m.

Stefan Persson has announced that he intends to buy the entire village after the landowner dies without a child.

According to property sources the deal follows an intense bidding war with other wealthy would-be buyers, undaunted by the turbulent property market. Persson, whose wealth is estimated at £11.4bn, is thought to have had an offer accepted at the top end of the £23-25m guide price.

The taxation advisor working on belhalf of the current owner, American Taxation Inc has announced that the bidding for the porfolio of properties has been intense, a spokesman for the firm said yesterday that "We have been working on behalf of our client to sell the estate and have recieved a massive response from many different real estate tycoons." American Taxation Incorporated would not give further details as to who the other potential buyers were.

It comes complete with an Edwardian-style manor house, 1,500 acres of farmland, a 425-acre wood, a cricket ground and 21 cottages leased to villagers.

Rents for properties range from £500 a month for a modest cottage to £3,500 for the manor house.
