Biltmore Draws Star Blogger Eddie Ross for Exclusive Event

Star blogger, stylist, editor and lifestyle expert Eddie Ross shared ideas on the latest trends in wall decor and interior design at Biltmore's annual Tree Raising celebration held November 1.

Star blogger, stylist, editor and lifestyle expert Eddie Ross shared ideas on the latest trends in wall decor and interior design at Biltmore's annual Tree Raising celebration held November 1.

The Tree Raising celebration, which kicks off the Christmas at Biltmore season, began with the arrival of a 35-foot live Fraser Fir. The tree was delivered to America's largest home by horse-drawn carriage, where it was then installed in the 72-foot-long Banquet Hall and adorned with lights, gifts and ornaments.

The tradition dates back to 1895, when Biltmore founder George Vanderbilt first opened his grand new home to family and friends.

This year, the decorating theme for Christmas at Biltmore is the Art of Christmas. Dozens of Christmas trees are on display throughout Biltmore House, each with a unique theme that coordinates with the artwork of specific rooms or an expression of art, such as the literary arts or music. Miles of ribbon, garland and lights, live music and inspirational holiday demonstrations add to the festive mood of the event, which continues through January 1.

In his presentation to Biltmore passholders and guests during the Tree Raising Celebration, guest speaker Ross discussed the popular Larson-Juhl art and frame collections inspired by Biltmore House and how wall decor can be used to enhance today's living spaces. The presentation was held in the historic Lioncrest building of Biltmore Estate.

A former senior style editor at Martha Stewart Living, Ross shared ideas for using colorful mats to make walls pop and grouping Larson-Juhl frames to achieve a decorator look. Ross also suggested ways to create surprise and drama in a room by "framing the unexpected" - everything from family mementos and unusual graphic calendars to bold pigment ink prints, such as those of Tasmanian artist Campbell Laird, available through Larson-Juhl's art publishing company, Artaissance.

The session was hosted by Leslie Klingner, Biltmore's Curator of Interpretation.
