BIMTECH organized a one day national conclave on 'Employability through Skill & Vocationalisation' in Bhubaneswar in November 2011.
Online, February 29, 2012 (Newswire.com) - BIMTECH organized a one day national conclave on 'Employability through Skill & Vocationalisation' in Bhubaneswar in November 2011. The conclave inaugurated by the Honourable Governor of Odisha, saw many notable personalities from the Government sector, PSUs, educational institutions, media and industries who shared how Skill & Vocationalisation can act as a means to fight poverty, illiteracy and unemployment.
It is a matter of great concern that in spite of India's growing economy the country has still not been able to free itself from the clutches of two major social evils namely poverty and illiteracy. "To remove this scourge, producing skilled human resource is the only panacea", remarked the Governor of Odisha Mr. Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. He said that it was essential to develop entrepreneurial skills amongst our country's youth and vocationalisation was a strong means to do so. Mr. Bhandare further said that vocationalisation can be used to build creative power in today's youth and vocation components should therefore be included in the academic curriculum.
Mr. Bhandare appreciated BIMTECH for providing a platform to share ideas and opinions on this subject and was confident that the institute will do its best to create skilled human resources.
Mr. Badri Narayan Patra, the minister for Higher Education also expressed his views on the subject. He shared how unemployment amongst the youth is mounting the burden on the national income and that we must work towards developing skilled human resources for the economic growth of our nation. He also announced that Odisha government has planned to establish at least 40 vocational colleges in the State by 2012.
Dr. H. Chaturvedi, the Director of BIMTECH also spoke at length on the topic and shared some very valuable information. He shared that by 2025 India would require almost around 700 million skilled human resources. and it is time for us to start working in this direction. We must take upon ourselves, the task of creating a strong basis for the required capacity. We need to nurture skills amongst our country's youth otherwise we might miss the much discussed, "Demographic Dividend".
Talking about the association with Birlas, spanning over 100 years in education sector, he promised that "the institute's Bhubaneswar campus would make a holistic, multi-dimensional contribution towards skill development in the State".
Shri C.S. Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Higher Education Dept, Govt. of Odisha said that "Skill development and vocationalisation has to start from school level education and it should be done in a time bound manner". He also shared that that the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model may also play a crucial role in vocationalisation of education. Dr. Sudhakar Panda, Member, State Farmers Commission also stressed upon the need to create skilled human resource.
The conclave had two technical sessions, one on the 'Role of Educational Institution in enhancing Skill Development' and the other on 'How to make Odisha an Ideal Source for Skilled Man-Power'. The panellists comprising of renowned academicians, senior bureaucrats and PSU Head mulled over the themes and suggested ways to develop the required skills in the youth of the state as well as the country.
