Online, March 29, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Birla Institute of Management Technology based in Greater Noida was chosen by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for a research project. The project was based on the preparation of a "Compendium of Technologies for Destruction of Waste Oils".
The students at BIMTECH started working on the project in April last year which got completed at the end of November in an International experts review
workshop held at Hotel Clarion Collections, New Delhi.
The workshop inaugurated by Executive Director, Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management, Gurgaon, NCR, Mr. N.K. Bansal began with UNEP member, Mr. Surya Prakash Chandak addressing the gathering. Mr. Chandak spoke at length about the global issues. He also discussed the plans set for fighting against these issues.
BIMTECH students had come up with six main sections of the compendium which covered the estimation of global generation of waste oils including the generic technologies for treatment of the hazardous waste, specific technologies for waste oil recycling and treatment of hazardous wastes and "Sustainability Assessment of Technologies (SAT)".
There was an exclusive section for the trainers. This section included a training manual meant for those trainers who wanted to use it for the purpose of spreading awareness by undertaking rigorous training of officials and authorities in their own countries. As an additional component to help the trainers and users of compendium, a user friendly software was developed, which is supplied in on CD fformat development of software which is easy to use and is meant for assisting the readers in figuring out and choosing an appropriate technology keeping in mind their country's requirement.
Seven foreign experts from different parts of the world including Sri Lanka, Japan, Trinidad, Italy and Nigeria were invited to review the final draft of the compendium. Apart from this, six national oil experts were also present to share their views on the compendium. The work done by the BIMTECH students was appreciated by all. The panel of experts has approved the report which UNEP would soon release for worldwide circulation.
