BIMTECH's Prof. Arun Sahay Is Truly A "Man Of The World"

Online, August 26, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Considered a "man of the world" by his students, Birla Institute of Management Technology's Prof. Arun Sahay is spreading BIMTECH's fame nationally and internationally.

A professor of Strategic Management and former chairman of BIMTECH's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Sahay is also on the governing board of the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS), a society which aims to: generate research and knowledge, disseminate knowledge, educate others and establish an information exchange on sustainable development.

In 2008, he headed the Chair of the ISDRS conference held in India between September 21-23 at India Habitat Centre (it's held on a different continent each year). This was an event described as a "big knowledge pool", where about 300 delegates including 200 from 68 countries representing all the continents met, presented and discussed their papers which were published in renowned international journals.

Introducing the Indian/BIMTECH context at the governing council level, he has put the proposal to host the conference again in India. Dr. Sahay also motivates research scholars to submit their papers to the society. This year two research scholars have already contributed research papers in this prestigious international research conference. He is pursuing a plan whereby the institute would fund researchers' trips to such conferences.

A typical day at work sees him wearing many hats - working on articles, helping students with research, assisting in deliberating and executing the vision of BIMTECH which needs meeting with various committees at the institute. His published works include articles in 12 national journals, 10 international journals and co-authorship of a book on entrepreneurship and new venture creation.

And his duties are bound to increase as BIMTECH, is starting a doctoral programme in management this year with "fellows" registering from all across the nation.

Dr. Sahay's life hasn't always been an academic one. After getting his B.Sc.(Mech Engg) from Ranchi University, he went on to get his M.Sc. and PhD at Technical University in Brno, Czechoslovakia. He studied management at PSG College, University of Madras. , he fortified his grasp of management through an advanced management course at Henley, the leading private management college in the UK. In recognition of his work in Entrepreneurship, he was invited by US Govt. to be trained as Resource Person in Innovation & Entrepreneurship for South Asia.

Dr. Sahay moved through the corporate world, eventually taking over at the helm of Scooters India Ltd., a company that was on its last legs. Under his direction, the company was turned around and for five years it was listed as one of the highest Economic Value Added (EVA) listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

In recognition of this feat he was named founding president of the Strategic Management Forum of India.

Affiliated with BIMTECH for around a year and half, Dr. Sahay predicts that research and innovation will take the institute far. He noted that it is slowly improving the percentile by which it is taking in its students and has already come a long way. A prime mission of his is to make BIMTECH a preferred destination for students and faculty.
