Bishop Anthony Jinwright Greater Salem City of God Church, An Example Of Prosperity Preaching Gone Wrong
PimpPreacher.com - The fall of Greater Salem City of God Church is a made for TV movie filled will bags of money, luxury cars, plush properties, and a pastor who was determined to live like a king at the expense of a working class congregation.
Online, November 9, 2010 (Newswire.com) - If there was ever a textbook example for the need to have Pastor Accountability, then simply turn to the chapter on Pastor Anthony and Harriet Jinwright. Pastor Anthony was recently convicted of tax evasion and the end result has landed three Greater Salem Church properties into foreclosure.
According to the Preacher Bureau of Investigations (www.PimpPreacher.com).
The fall of Greater Salem Church is a made for TV movie filled will bags of money, luxury cars, plush properties, and a pastor who was determined to live like a king at the expense of a working class congregation.
To blame the upcoming foreclose proceedings on the arrest of Pastor Jinwright would unfairly sum up this horrific ordeal into a time period of only 18 months. What has led to the collapse of this congregation has been years of dictator rule mixed with an obsessive lust for tithes and offerings.
Many of the faithful members of Greater Salem Church are now wondering what has happened to their tithes and donations collected by the church. Greater Salem was established over 150 years ago and operated virtually debt free for most of it existence. It was in fact Pastor Jinwright who decided to drag the congregation into debt by defaulting on a second mortgage which has resulted in the scheduled auction of Greater Salem Church properties.
As report by QCityMetro.com
"According to a legal notice posted Nov. 5 in the Charlotte Observer, three Greater Salem Church properties are scheduled for public auction on Friday, November 12, at the Mecklenburg Courthouse.
The notice indicated that the church had defaulted on a mortgage taken out in 2008.
Efforts to reach church officials were not immediately successful.
The properties listed for auction are:
• The main church at 5318 Salem Church Road in Charlotte. Tax records show that the 23,162-square-foot building sits on 2.95 acres and has an assessed value of $1.5 million.
• A second church location at 17609 Old Statesville Road in Cornelius. Tax records for this location were unavailable.
• Vacant land on the north side of Rozells Ferry Road in Charlotte
Qcitymetro could not immediately determine how much is owed on the properties.
The Jinwrights were indicted on charges that they failed to report more than $1.8 million in income on their federal tax returns between 2001 and 2007. That number eventually was increased to $2.3 million. During those same years, prosecutors alleged, the couple received more than $5 million in compensation from the west Charlotte church. Prosecutors estimated that the Jinwrights owed the federal government nearly $700,000."
A spokesperson from the Preacher Bureau of Investigation (www.PimpPreacher.com) says that Pastor Jinwright managed this Church into the ground while living a lifestyle of extreme luxury.
"Our hearts go out to the members of Greater Salem Church because they remained faithful even through what clearly appears to be a classic case of abuse by the Pastor. With recent church sex scandals dominating the national media, we still have to acknowledge that a lack of fiscal responsibility is also a form of abuse. Due entirely to the actions of Pastor Jinwright, we now have the sanctuaries of a very historic congregation up for auction. As the Body of Christ it is now time to hold the Pastors fully accountable for their actions prior to a scandal going public."
