Bivins Gallery Announces Exclusive Representation of Ricardo Paniagua with December Solo Exhibition

An opening reception will be held on December 9, 2017 at Bivins Gallery and works by the venerated artist can be seen beginning in August 2017.

Bivins Gallery is pleased to announce its representation of Ricardo Paniagua. The gallery will present a solo exhibition by the artist titled Ricardo Paniagua: Miracles, Prophecies, and Revelations from December 9, 2017 through January 20, 2018. Ricardo Paniagua is known for his trompe l'oeil constructions, particularly his geometric paintings and sculptures, which explore the relationships between color, line, and form. Miracles, Prophecies, and Revelations will feature paintings, three-dimensional constructions, and wall sculptures. Bivins Gallery will host an opening reception for Ricardo Paniagua: Miracles, Prophecies, and Revelations with the artist in attendance on December 9 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the gallery's Uptown location in the Crescent. Complimentary valet parking will be provided for the opening and for all guests of Bivins Gallery during normal business hours.

An autodidact, Paniagua's works demonstrate the clear impact of his background as the descendent of generations of master tile artisans. The extreme precision of his geometric sculptures, tondos, and wall sculptures, as well as the psychedelic colors of many of his works, speak to the artist's meticulous consideration. Paniagua has participated in exhibitions across the United States, including a 2015 show at the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin.

"We have been looking for years for a Texas artist to hang with our historically significant and important roster, and when we saw Ricardo's work, we knew we had found him," Karen and Michael Bivins say.

One strength of Ricardo's paintings is that they offer visual forms that don't appear to be directed by a catalogue of art historical references. Ricardo speaks of painting as something that comes from the ground, through you and out you, somewhat like a dream. His works appear to emerge from an internal place where form and rhythm coalesce.
