Bivins Gallery Solo Exhibition Announcement Featuring Tom Holland: Birds and Water

Opening reception on Fri., October 27, 2017, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bivins Gallery in the Uptown Dallas Crescent complex.

Bivins Gallery is proud to present Tom Holland: Birds and Water from October 27 through December 2, 2017. The solo exhibition will be unveiled with an opening reception on Friday, October 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at which the celebrated artist will be present. Holland's works are inspired by natural elements of California where the artist currently resides, evident in the forms and colors of each work.

The exhibition at Bivins Gallery will focus on the artist's most recent works, and will include paintings and freestanding paintings. The sinuous forms and organic colors call to mind the landscape and scenery of the legendary artist's surroundings. In using his preferred media, epoxy on aluminum and epoxy on fiberglass, Holland creates visual homages to naturally occurring elements, sceneries, and textures.

While at the University of California at Berkeley, he was strongly influenced by his close friends Richard Diebenkorn and David Park. Though his early work was very traditional, it was when Holland began working with aluminum and fiberglass during his early years teaching at UCLA that he began to achieve critical acclaim. Holland maintains his conviction that his works must equal more than the sum of their parts: "If the materials are strong, the painting has to be stronger."

Tom Holland has been, and continues to be, extensively exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, and is frequently honored with awards and accolades. His work can be found in prestigious private and public collections around the world, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Guggenheim, MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Hirshhorn in Washington, D.C. Tom is the recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship, the Guggenheim Fellowship, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Complimentary valet parking will be provided for the opening and for all guests of Bivins Gallery during normal business hours.
