This is so as the company feels that almost all its clients have their Facebook account which is shown by the survey that the company has conducted. This would allow anyone who has his Facebook account to know the current status of their insurance policies. Also, through the use of the social networking site a policy holder of Blue Cross and Blue Shield will have the right to make claims with the use of their policy number and other information that is needed by the site.

Mr. Leandro Smith, chief of the IT team of the Blue Cross California said that having a tie up with the social networking site has cost the company a million dollar for the IT infrastructure that it needs but it would be a great help to its clientele. Also, of all the advantages that having tied up with Facebook is that the company can offer a service that will be available to almost all its clients.

Making such step has made Blue Cross and Blue Shield the very first insurance company to use the influence of a social networking web site such as the Facebook. And it is the hope of both companies for their tie up to be successful.
