Boca Raton, Florida - January, 2010 - With menopause now a household name, women have a pretty good idea of what to expect when going through "the change." Most men on the other hand are unaware that a male menopause even exists. In fact, men often dismiss tell-tale signs of hormonal imbalance as a part of growing old and usually don't realize the severity of the condition until it's too late. As men age, hormones, namely testosterone and DHEA levels begin to naturally decline. This progressive hormonal decline is medically classified as a hormonal imbalance. In men, a hormonal imbalance can manifest itself through a constellation of symptoms that men often describe as losing their edge; feeling like they're not as sharp as they once were.
As a means of increasing male menopause awareness, BodyLogicMD, the nation's largest network of bioidentical hormones experts, has announced the debut of the all new docu-drama blog: MANopause Maniac. The new blog spot will feature real-life stories from real men, discussing the realities of the male menopause known as andropause.
Two years ago, BodyLogicMD unveiled Menopause Maniac, a reality blog dedicated to women suffering from perimenopause and menopause. Now men too can join in the conversation and share some trials and tribulations of their own and offer advice on ways to overcome symptoms of andropause and restore hormonal balance.
"Trying to live out my life with a healthy dose of taking care of myself... Wow! What a simple concept, right? Wrong. Belly fat, low energy, arthritis pain, off-and-on depression... Stop! I can't let that be the life I live if there are choices - and there are. As a part of the MANopause Maniac community, I plan to make men aware of the treatment options available to them to treat the symptoms of andropause," shares MANopause Maniac Larry B.
"When I first started practicing integrative and functional medicine, my patient base was primarily comprised of women," shares BodyLogicMD Medical Director and Larry B.'s BodyLogicMD physician Dr. Jennifer Landa. "But as time went on, I began treating more and more male patients, many of which were curious as to why their symptoms were so similar to what their wives were experiencing during menopause. They were often confused because the vast majority of them were under the impression that hormonal imbalances only affected women."
