Bonds' Alley Art Festival Returns

Hillsboro's Historic Bonds' Alley Art Festival is returning on June 4th & 5th to showcase some of the best Artists from across the state. George Boutwell, Official State Artist of the State of Texas in 2006, will be our Featured Artist as we celebrate the 42nd year of the Bond's Alley Art Festival.

Hillsboro Main Street is excited to announce the details of the 2016 Bond's Alley Art Festival.  The juried art festival was an annual event from 1964 until 2005 and was rejuvenated in 2015.  This year's event will continue to build upon the success of last year's event.  Booth spaces are already filling up inside of Bond's Alley itself, which will be reserved for juried artists and artisans this year.  The show will open at 10am on Saturday, June 4th and at Noon on Sunday, June 5th.

Our featured artist in 2016 will be one of Texas' finest again as George Boutwell joins Bond's Alley.  George was honored by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas State Legislature in 2006 when he was proclaimed the "Official State Artist of the State of Texas."  It was while acting as Art Director for Texas Highways Magazine from 1966 until 1972 that George became more aware of the diversity and beauty of the state.  It was then that he decided to make the depiction of the beauty of the people, places, and landscapes of Texas his life's work.  Few artists can claim to capture the essence of this great state like George Boutwell does and we are honored to have him join us again in 2016.

In addition to the great juried artists inside of Bond's Alley, Gould Street will also be filled with Craft vendors and we are excited to restore another part of Bond's Alley history in 2016 as we recreate the Courtyard Cafe that was an important part of the festival for 38 years.  The Cafe will be set up on the Brookshire's parking lot along Gould Street with food vendors encompassing an inner courtyard with plenty of seating to take a break and enjoy some great food.

Also new in 2016 will be the Hillsboro Star Talent Competition.  As we strive to make Historic Downtown Hillsboro a home for great art, we want to make sure we cover all art genres, including performing arts.  It was through this desire that the Hillsboro Star Talent Competition came to be a part of our Bond's Alley event.  The Talent competition will begin at 6pm, Saturday, June 4th on the music stage set up behind the Hillsboro Public Library along Gould Street.  This competition will be open to any performing artists from Hill County as we look to crown the 2016 Hillsboro Star.
