Online, September 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - 2nd Annual Bonnie's Bootcamp for a Cause
The second annual Bootcamp for a Cause Fundraising event will take place on Sunday, September 26th at Haskell Field in Sudbury, at 8AM. This event was created in 2009 by Bonnie Morrissey to honor her mother, Marlene Kittredge, who passed away in 2008 after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Last year's event raised over $16,000 dollars, which was given to NYU Langone Medical Center to support ovarian cancer research. This year's goal is $25,000, and all proceeds will again be donated to NYU, the center where Marlene received treatments under the care of Dr. Franco Muggia, the Director of the Division of Medical Oncology.
"Dr. Muggia was my mom's doctor through the course of her treatment for 5 1/2 years, so knowing that the money raised from these annual events is going right into his hands is such a wonderful feeling for me," Morrissey said. "I truly feel that his special care and treatments kept her alive long enough so she was able to meet and hold my twins when they were born in June 2008."
Dr. Muggia is the Director of the Division of Medical Oncology at NYU Medical Center. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology, Muggia is a leader in his field, and has authored numerous research articles about cancer screening and treatments. Research at NYU is supported through grants and private donations. By registering for this great event on September 26th, not only will participants get a great workout, but 100% of the registration fee will be donated directly to Dr. Muggia's fund, helping to further ovarian cancer research. "Dr. Muggia gave me a special gift," Bonnie said, "extra time with my mom, and in return, I am just thrilled to be able to help further his research for treatments of ovarian cancer."

Bonnie's Bootcamp is partnered with Whole Foods Market in Wayland as Bonnie's healthy eating guidelines and philosophies are right on par with those of the leading natural and organic food store's. Bonnie's Bootcamp logos are located all throughout the aisles pointing out "Bootcamp Approved" foods, all taste-tested by Bonnie, and her original "Bonnie's Rockin' Rice Salad" is often found on the salad bar.
