Boozman, Hutchinson and Pryor to Headline Dignitaries Attending Mulberry River Society's 'Make a Splash' Earth Day Celebration
OZARK, Ark., April 4, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Governor Asa Hutchinson and U.S. Senator John Boozman to headline as speakers for the"Mulberry River Celebration" Dedication and Award Ceremonies (4-20-18) in the heart of the Ozark National Forest to honor the Mulberry River Society and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act on the Banks of the Mulberry River (a nationally designated Wild and Scenic River).
The Mulberry River Society (MRS), Governor Hutchinson, Senator Boozman, Smokey Bear, US Forest Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Arkansas Canoe Club and other local, state and federal officials will be joining together to “Make a Splash,” as they celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and Earth Day during an afternoon of planned festivities along the Mulberry River. The celebration will officially dedicate the newly restored High Bank and Indian Creek access points on the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Mulberry River, located in Franklin, Johnson and Crawford counties, Arkansas.
Adding to the celebration, the USFS has nominated MRS for a national volunteer service award to recognize their dedicated work on the High Bank and Indian Creek projects. The restoration of these access points is the result of a collaborative effort between MRS volunteers, the USFS, AGFC and ACC. Former Arkansas Governor and U.S. Senator David Pryor will be honored and presented with an MRS Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the state and vision for protection and preservation of the Mulberry River.
The event headquarters will be at the Byrds Adventure Center on Hwy 215 and guided tours of the High Bank and Indian Creek River Access Landings, Educational Booths and The Commemorative Floatilla will begin at noon. A Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting will commence at 3 p.m. at High Bank with a proclamation by Governor Hutchinson. Officials will then proceed to the Byrd’s River stage where awards and speakers will proceed and a BBQ dinner will then be provided to all participants and entertainment featuring Ozark's own Nashville recording artist Lance Carpenter.
