Boston Limited Showcases Next-Generation Igloo Storage Appliance Featuring PCI-E Gen 3.0 HBA Technology At Cebit 2012

Boston Limited is proud to showcase its next-generation Igloo storage appliance featuring LSI host bus adapter (HBA) technology based on the PCI Express® 3.0 specification at Cebit (Hall 2, Stand E45).

Hannover, Germany (March 8, 2012). Boston Limited is proud to showcase its next-generation Igloo storage appliance featuring LSI host bus adapter (HBA) technology based on the PCI Express® 3.0 specification at Cebit (Hall 2, Stand E45).

Ideal for data centres and cloud computing installations thanks to its high storage density and low power consumption, this new Igloo storage appliance combines next-generation PCI-E 3.0 HBA technology with the latest Intel Xeon E5-2600-series processors. These new processors provide the best performance-per-watt and performance-per-dollar of any CPU family available today.

The new Igloo is based around the compact 2U rackmount Supermicro (NASDAQ: SMCI) SYS-6027R-ERF4+ head node which houses a Supermicro X9DR3-LN4F+ motherboard and pair of Intel Xeon E5-2640 processors. This revolutionary combination makes the new Igloo the first storage appliance to boast PCI-E 3.0 for improved throughout to expansion cards and quad-channel memory to boost performance.

The technology demo features a next-generation LSI 6Gb/s SAS HBA with 16 external ports achieving up to 700,000 IOPS, providing the responsiveness required for multi-disk configurations. The technology demo will also showcase the high scalability of the new lgloo as well as its energy-efficient design, thanks to its use of Platinum-class power supplies.

While the SYS-6027R-ERF4+ chassis can house up to eight 3.5in drives, equating to 24TB of storage, the star of the show of the new Igloo is the Supermicro 836E26-R1200B chassis. This 3U chassis uses JBOD technology to support up to 16 x 3.5in drives, or 48TB of storage. Up to four versions of this chassis may be linked to a single SYS-6027R-ERF4+ head node, for up to 192TB of high performance storage.

Manoj Nayee, Managing Director of Boston Limited, says "Boston is delighted to showcase the new Igloo, the first in a brilliant range of highly scalable, flexible and efficient storage appliances. The new Igloo boasts outstanding performance and is the perfect foundation for a flexible and efficient storage deployment."
