Bothwell-Accurate Offers a Peek at its Unique Operations Strategy through its Innovative Sustainable Roofing Systems
Bothwell-Accurate knows what it takes when it comes to sustainability, diversity and giving back to the community.
Online, July 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - (San Diego, CA)- In an interview with Business Review Canada, George Vassallo, CEO of Bothwell-Accurate, divulges how he attained the company and revolutionized its green initiatives.
The article discusses rooftop installation. Bothwell-Accurate stresses the importance that the installation of the solar panels is done properly. "It's almost like the wild west where people are showing up and gun slinging and they're not applying the solar panels properly on top of the roof," Vassallo explained. "They don't get [the roofs] structurally checked, and they're putting them on old roofs that have to be replaced in five years. If you put the solar panel on top of the roof that has to be replaced in five years, it doesn't make any sense."
Bothwell-Accurate is the only roofing contractor in North America that holds the ISO 14064 certification, which is the Green Gas Credit Emissions ISO Certification. The company believes carbon credits are going to be an increasingly important issue. Achieving ISO Certification allows them more credibility and intelligence in talking to the customers about carbon credits.
The company strives to maintain a diversified business and the type of customer they utilize. Bothwell-Accurate constructed the roof for Terminal One at Toronto International Airport, as well as the ACC, which is the Maple leaf home for hockey and many other structures in the area.
"We do anything from the tallest buildings in Toronto to the smallest industrial buildings," said Vassallo. "But our portfolio is pretty large."
About Bothwell-Accurate
Bothwell-Accurate was started back in 1927 and was purchased five years ago by George Vassallo, CEO, who single-handedly moved the direction of the company and took it from conventional roofing to environmental roofing. The company's roofing materials used to be ash-fall based; now they are utilizing a recyclable, single-ply membrane. Vassallo has also introduced a more sustainable roof using lightweight concrete as their installation factor. The lightweight concrete gives their roofs sustainability up to approximately 100 years: the single-ply membrane and concrete can be applied over each other five times before it has to be removed and recycled. Compared to the 15 year life span of ash-fall based roofing, this represents an incredible increase in longevity and value.
