"Boxes of Hope" go from Clearwater to Haiti
Clearwater - Clearwater Academy has partnered with Bless the Children, an international relief organization, to send "Boxes of Hope" to Haiti.
Students from the school, which serves preschool through high school, have begun filling empty banana boxes with much-needed emergency supplies for people affected by this great tragedy.
"In times of disaster it's easy to feel powerless. For this reason we felt that it was important for our students to get involved and do something meaningful," said Laurie Miller, Community Activities Director.
Bless the Children has been sending humanitarian aid shipments to impoverished countries around the world for over 18 years, including their most recent shipment this past December of $800,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies to Haiti.
The school is welcoming donations of supplies between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations may be brought to reception at 801 Drew Street in Clearwater. Needed supplies include canned food, can openers, toiletries, water, baby supplies, flashlights, batteries, and first aid/medical supplies. Clothes are not being shipped at this time.
Financial donations are critically needed to purchase specific emergency supplies and to help with shipping expenses. Make checks payable to Bless the Children.
The school has targeted February 10 to have enough supplies collected for the first 40 ft. sea container shipment. Companies who may have large amounts of supplies to donate can contact Karen Hubbard at 727-631-0088.
Clearwater Academy is a non-profit school licensed to use Applied Scholastics™ educational services and materials.
