Online, May 25, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Robert F. Boyd, Managing Director at Balentine, has been elected to the board of The St. Mary's College of Maryland Foundation. St. Mary's College of Maryland is a public, liberal arts college established in 1840. Its foundation works closely with the university to enhance support for scholarships and a range of college initiatives.
Boyd will bring 40 years of investment experience and 25 years advising foundations, endowments and community organizations to bear on his new role. Given his background and experience, he will focus on the Foundation's investment activities. When asked about being named a Foundation board member, Boyd said, "This is a wonderful opportunity to help a strong, growing college fulfill its vital role in educating young women and men. I am honored to serve."
Boyd joined Balentine, an independent, employee owned firm serving the investment and risk management needs of individuals, families, and not-for-profit institutions, earlier this year as a Managing Director. He serves the mid-Atlantic region from Balentine's Baltimore, Maryland office and works closely with Balentine's Investment Strategy Team. He began his career in the research department of Smith Barney. Subsequently, he worked at the Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Company where he served as the Chairman of the Investment Policy Committee. After leaving Mercantile, Boyd worked in senior management positions at Brandywine Asset Management and Investment Counselors of Maryland. His distinguished career in the investment management industry spans almost forty years and has focused on investment research, client service and risk management. His research has been widely published and is featured in Understanding Wall Street, by Jeffrey B. Little and Lucien Rhodes, today in its fifth edition (McGraw-Hill, 2010).
Boyd graduated from the University of Virginia with highest distinction and was inducted into the Raven Society. He received his MBA from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business, where his studies centered on finance, central banking and accounting. He holds the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA®) designation. For the past 25 years, he has advised the board of the Women's Hospital, the founding organization of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, and is a past trustee of the Gilman School where he also served as president of the Alumni Association.
