Brandi Kamenar, CEO and Creative Director of Icon B. Marketing & Publicity Group, Joins 1Voice Foundation's Board To Help Children With Cancer
Online, January 28, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Brandi Kamenar, CEO and Creative Director of Icon B. Marketing & Publicity Group, joins the Board of the 1Voice Foundation and will chair the Marketing and Corporate Development Committee as it strives to raise awareness of the non-profit's mission to support children with cancer and their families by connecting them with financial, emotional and educational care while funding research for tomorrow's cure.
"There are about 830 children being treated for cancer in the Tampa Bay area right now, and it's so important they get the care they need," Kamenar said. "I'm very excited to be joining 1Voice Foundation. It's a fantastic group of people and their mission, especially in this economy, is so important."
As any parent knows, it's hard when your child is sick and can't go to school. The 1Voice Foundation just partnered with the Hillsborough County School District to create a satellite medical homebound education center that will be the first of its kind in the nation. The school district will supply the primary and secondary school teachers to ensure the children keep up with their lessons, and more importantly, have the ability to socialize just like other school-aged kids. The school will also provide sibling programs and educational programs for the whole family.
Part of Kamenar's mission is to raise corporate donations and sponsorships for the school. The 1Voice Foundation is launching a $5 million capital campaign to raise the necessary funds.
Kamenar's goal is to also raise awareness of the 1Voice Foundation's research program, headed by Dr. Cameron Tebbi, M.D. Tebbi founded the Hermatology/Oncology Research Laboratory at St. Joseph's Hospital's Children's Hospital in Tampa and has been helping young cancer patients for 40 years. He is a permanent member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Cancer Institute and is currently researching the development of a vaccine for neuroblastoma, molecular genetics of medulloblastona, and Hodgkin's Disease.
"By assembling an incredible team of researchers, donors, corporate sponsors and volunteers, we can give hope, inspiration and assistance to hundreds of local families coping with childhood cancer," Kamenar said. "There is no better feeling in the world than the feeling that comes from knowing you're making a difference."
About the 1Voice Foundation
The 1Voice Foundation began in 2008 when six members of the Tampa Bay community - each having prior experience with pediatric cancer programs - realized organizations focused on research and organizations focused on assisting families were competing for dollars instead of working together. The 1Voice Foundation's Executive Director is MaryAnn Massolio, who was the executive director of the Children's Cancer Center for 10 years and who knows firsthand what it's like when your child is diagnosed with cancer. In addition to researching cures for cancer, The 1Voice Foundation provides resources and support groups for patients and their families, outings for children with cancer, scholarships, and funeral assistance. The non-profit organization currently does not receive any state or federal funding and is dependent on corporate and private donations.
