Branding You On Facebook " To tag or not to tag - that is the question."

Desire Into Action was looking at their friends status updates the other day and came across one of their friends status which was just a inspirational quote by Mark Twain which they then clicked on the "Like" button.

As you would know if you use Facebook, once you have made a comment on a status or liked it you get notifiactions if someone else has made a comment or liked it.

So within a hour or two Desire Into Action started to get some notifications on the status they liked, now bear in mind the reply's to their friends status had nothing to do with his inspirational quote, this is how the comments went: ( I have blanked out the names for privacy)

Facebooker
#####, I realize you are running a business but I don't appreciate you attaching video's to my site. Remove immediately or I will report this incident.

My Friend
There was no ill deed meant on my part. I did not pitch ANY sort of business at all. That is not how I operate.
Did you even watch the video? It was simply a welcome video saying hello and introducing myself. Nothing more. I only tagged you with it as you and I have recently become connected here on FB and I wanted my introduction to be unique. I didn't realize that saying "hello" to someone would ever upset them as it obviously did with you. It is sad that others have ruined this approach of saying hello by blatantly pitching their business in the video. Consider the welcome video removed

Another Facebooker
#####,
It is not nice to tag others in your video, whatever the reason. Some people like myself want to control what appears on their wall. I guess that they don't teach this at #### Dillard's school.

My Friend
#######...by what you're saying here is that if I were to create a testimonial video talking about what a great attraction marketing mentor you are, it wouldn't be proper to tag you in the video? That seems rather un-Dillard wouldn't you say?

Desire Into Action
Hey #####,

Love you come backs, other people should put more energy in the way they market their business rather than criticise how people brand them self's in their business.
You go #####!!

My Friend
I'm not here to knock one side or the other. I just tag my new friends in a video where I simply introduce myself and give a virtual handshake. People pay more attention to a video than a message that says "Hey, welcome to my network. I look forward to networking with you." Do you know how many of those i get every single day? How is that separating yourself from everyone else that does the same thing?

Maybe I'm in the minority on this issue, but my video comments directly to that video sure seem to support my point of view.

Now there is still some inexperienced marketers out there who still don't get it, so the answer to the question "to tag or not to tag" Desire Into Action would 100% say tag, but only if you were doing what their fellow facebooker was doing. They would defiantly not be tagging anyone in a video or note directing them to a landing page etc, this would then be very inappropriate.
