Brazil 2010: A Collaboration Between Art in America & Pinacoteca

Curated Art Travel™ to the 29th São Paulo Biennial, Rio de Janeiro and Instituto Cultural Inhotim designed exclusively for Art in America, September 19-26, 2010.

NEW YORK, NY (May 21st, 2010) - Art in America, the preeminent international contemporary art publication, has partnered with luxury art travel advisory Pinacoteca to create an exclusive, guided, and curated tour of Brazil's contemporary art scene. Coinciding with the 29th São Paulo Biennial, Brazil 2010 offers art enthusiasts insider access to the Biennial, guided visits led by trained art historians to landmark museums and cultural institutions, invitations to select artists' studios, access to private art collections, architectural tours, and fine dining at award winning restaurants.

Brazil 2010 begins in Rio de Janeiro where quintessentially Brazilian sites such as Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar), Ipanema Beach, and the neighborhood of Santa Teresa will provide ample opportunity for exploration and leisure. The Program will continue to the City of São Paulo, a dynamic megalopolis and leading exponent of Contemporary Latin American Art. A one-day visit to the Instituto Cultural Inhotim in Belo Horizonte will complete the itinerary. While primarily focused on visual culture, Brazil 2010 will also feature modern Brazilian architecture and the latest tendencies in contemporary design. Small groups of guests not exceeding ten participants will ensure an intimate cultural experience and personalized attention by on-site Pinacoteca Specialists.

HIGHLIGHTS:

SÃO PAULO:
INVITATION TO THE 29TH BIENAL DE SÃO PAULO

Founded in 1951, The São Paulo Art Biennial is second in age only to the Venice Biennial and the most prestigious event of its kind in South America. Like its Venetian role model, the Biennial hosts national presentations and international exhibitions under the direction of select curators.

The São Paulo Biennial Foundation appointed the economist and researcher Moacir dos Anjos as Curator-in-Chief of the Biennial's 29th edition, which will take place between September and October 2010. According to dos Anjos, the 29th edition will be organized from a discursive platform, and will underline the ambiguous character of art, which has the ability to concurrently produce and transform experience.

Members of the Art in America experience will have the opportunity to meet with exhibiting artists, explore, and contemplate the Biennial from a private, all access, and thought provoking perspective.

RIO DE JANEIRO:
MAC - MUSEU DE ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA DE NITERÃ"I

The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói - MAC) is situated in the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is one of the country's architectural landmarks. Designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer to house the João Sattamini Collection of Brazilian Contemporary Art, the MAC's curving figure is an example of the search for an identity between the local and the universal.

The MAC-Niteroi is one of many seductive structures by Oscar Niemeyer, 1988 winner of the Pritzker Prize, and one of the principal architects of modern Brasilia.

The Art in America program affords travelers an exclusive tour of the building led by the Architecture and Patrimony Division.

BELO HORIZONTE:
CENTRO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA INHOTIM

Created in 2005, the Instituto Cultural Inhotim is an open air museum contained in a botanical garden. Located in Brumadinho, 60 km from the capital of Minas Gerais, Inhotim holds a precious collection of contemporary art as well as botanical wealth. There, the environment is intertwined with art, and creates a base for wide-reaching educational programs. Spread throughout the garden are pavilions, or galleries, each with a distinct look and aesthetic.

The institute itself focuses on contemporary art and environmental issues while supporting research and education in both fields. The range of media spans paintings, drawings, photographs, videos and installations of Brazilian and international artists.

Guests will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the lush environment of Inhotim while viewing a curated panorama of the dynamics of the museum.
