The Sunday Times has released 2011's rich list for Britain and Ireland showing that there are now a staggering 73 billionaires in the UK, compared with 53 in 2010 - which just goes to show, there is money to be made even during a recession!

Worth: £17,514 million
Made their money in: steel
Profile: The London resident Mittal is not only the largest steelmaker on the globe but chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal. Time magazine has rated him as one of its top 100 most influential people in the world, probably because one in every five cars is made of materials from his steel empire.

Profile: Usmanov is listed as the 35th richest person on the planet. He made most of his money in metal but has also accrued riches from lumber and investment. Usmanov is also one of Arsenal FC's main shareholders.

Profile: Abramovich is best known in England as the owner of Chelsea FC though he acquired his wealth in oil. He reportedly first began to sell stolen gasoline to commissioned officers during his time in the army.

Profile: Gerald Grosvenor, the sixth Duke of Westminster, is the richest property developer in Britain, working through his company Grosvenor Group.

Profile: Ernesto Bertarelli has made his fortune running the pharmaceutical company Serono, founded by his father. He married Kirsty Roper, former Miss UK and song writer, in the year 2000.

Profile: Leonard Blavatnik currently owns a house at Kensington Palace Gardens. He made his money through clever investments in addition to forming the Russian oil company TNK-BP.
