British Art Promotes European Breast Health Awareness Campaign
Online, October 25, 2010 (Newswire.com) - British Artist Samira Harris has used more than a thousand photographs, including the faces of people affected by breast cancer, to recreate her own unique version of Botticelli's Venus. For the giant 6ft by 5ft artwork the artist used a combination of fine art techniques and digital image enhancement. The work was unveiled at the Samsung Pink Ribbon Celebration at The Royal Exchange in Bank, London on Thursday 14th October. It will be auctioned at the end of the month to raise funds for a number of breast cancer charities across Europe, including Cancer Research UK. Limited Edition prints of some of her other artworks are also being sold in support of breast cancer research during October by the Berkshire-based Style Cube Gallery.
The 1,096 photographs used in the artwork represent the number of people diagnosed with the disease in Europe every day. They were uploaded by men and women throughout Europe during the course of the past year to www.morethantalk.eu, a website created by Samsung as a centre of support for people affected by breast cancer. Twenty of those photographs will be displayed on the big Samsung screen at Piccadilly Circus, London as part of the "More Than Talk" European Breast Health Awareness campaign during October.
Online Art Gallery Style Cube is also supporting the campaign by donating all profits from sales of Limited Edition Prints by Samira Harris this month to Cancer Research UK. Samira Harris is an established artist based in Lewes, Sussex at the Zu Studios artistic community.
