Brookdale Seniors Gain Experiences of a Lifetime

Company collects wishes from residents and commits to fulfilling dreams.

They may be tucked away in a tattered journal or stored permanently in one's memory, but everyone has them --"What I Want to Do Some Day" lists. Some people wish to travel, others long to attempt extreme adventures or even to reunite with family. No matter the desire, everyone's dreams hold some special significance and sense of fulfillment.

Residents at selected Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide were recently given the opportunity to share and submit their wishes as part of a program called Experiences of a Lifetime. Residents were asked to explain an experience they wished to fulfill. They then had to relate that experience to any of the six dimensions of the company's Optimum Life® concept: physical, emotional, purposeful, social, spiritual, and intellectual. Experiences of a Lifetime is an extension of Brookdale's Optimum Life® program, whose purpose is to cultivate total wellness through personal development in these six key areas.

"Experiences of a Lifetime encourages our residents to expand their opportunity for living an Optimum Life® by choosing experiences that are directly tied to one or more of the six dimensions of wellness," said Sara Terry, vice president of Optimum Life® for Brookdale. "By fulfilling these experiences for our residents, we wish to grant them long-lasting memories while their lifelong dreams become a reality."

For example, a few residents expressed the desire to take music lessons, which highlights the intellectual dimension. One resident wished for a trip to the Holy Land - a clear reflection of the spiritual dimension. The company collected their dreams and will provide a helping hand in making some of these goals come true.

"Experiences of a Lifetime takes Brookdale's commitment to providing exceptional experiences every day for its residents to a new level by making lifelong dreams a reality," said Terry. "It encourages our residents to keep dreaming and to explore new, untapped opportunities."

Brookdale will select and fulfill 12 resident experiences over the course of the year. Family and friends of Brookdale residents are invited to share in the experience with their loved ones to add to the excitement.
