"Broward County Poet-In-Residence Anastasia Clark Presents: Our Poetic Tribute To Amelia Earhart"

Broward County area poets sought for Amelia Earhart project; Additional venues sought to display the project

Poet Anastasia Clark announces she will be conducting five free workshops at five libraries throughout Broward County, Florida to encourage poets to create a wide variety of poetry in honor of famed pilot Amelia Earhart. Both emerging and established poets are invited to participate. The poems will be presented in an heirloom quality leather album crafted by LeatherScrapBook.Com, Inc., to the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum located in Atchison, KS, who will showcase the collection during 2012 April National Poetry Month. Original vignette artwork and promotional assistance will be contributed by artist and author, Shae Leighland-Pence, based in Falls Church, VA.

Amelia Earhart disappeared, along with her navigator, Fred Noonan, while attempting to fly around the globe in 1937. Their journey had publicly started approximately one month earlier in Miami, Florida on June 1, 1937. The year 2012 marks the 75th anniversary of their mysterious disappearance. Earhart was not only a pilot and advocate for women's causes, but she was also a writer and poet. This project will be dedicated to her life and legend.

Several Broward County libraries will also simultaneously display the poems during 2012 National Poetry Month, including Margate Catharine Young Library, Stirling Road Branch Library, Dania Beach Paul DeMaio Library, Miramar Library, Southwest Regional Library and Weston Library. In addition, the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum may display the poetry, pending completion of recent renovations. Other organizations are invited to participate. Please contact Anastasia Clark if you would like to display a copy of the poems.

A free, public reading of the collection will take place from 6:00-8:00pm on April 20, 2012 at Studio 18 in the Pines, an art gallery located at 1101 Poinciana Dr., Pembroke Pines, FL 33025. Studio 18 (City of Pembroke Pines, FL) is providing the venue free of charge for this unique celebration.

Workshops will include background information, writing tips and discussions. Poets will retain copyright to their work and individual organizations will have final discretion over what is ultimately displayed at each location.
