Carmen Bucco, the man behind Bucco Couture, has been in the apparel business for twenty years and has maintained a tailor shop in Nutley and a home office in Belleville for the last 10 years. Producing customized suits for various clients, one of Bucco's most recent creations is for choreographer and hip-hop/R&B artist L Frost, who he's dressing for the upcoming Grammy Awards on Feb. 13.

"For L Frost's wardrobe for the Grammys, we created a jacket with a wider shawl lapel and went [with an] old-style, Hollywood waistband for the pants," says Bucco. "His favorite color is red so we had the whole outline of the jacket pick-stitched in red, and used red-stitched button holes. I'm also using a material that has a sparkle to it to complement his name."

According to Bucco, he tries to get to know each of his clients so he can tailor their suit's pattern, fabric and style to match their unique personalities. "My shop in Nutley is only for doing the actual tailoring," explains Bucco. For measurements and fittings, "I go to my client's home or office. That's where my business is different from others. I always wanted to deal with people on a personal level-to build a relationship not just a sale."

Bucco serves not only as a tailor but as a personal stylist to his clients as well. One of his biggest clients is New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.

"I design all of his suits," says Bucco. "I come up with creations of what to put together and how to put them together. I take the shirts and put them together with the suits so he (Jacobs) doesn't have to worry about it."

The clothier, whose passion for formal dressing is inspired by Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack, believes that image and dressing up the part play an important role in a person's success. It is for this reason, he says, that Bucco Couture was born, "to help people achieve the look that gives them confidence and exudes professionalism."

Several projects are in the offing for Bucco Couture. Aside from developing corporate programs and event promotions, it also offers the Virtual Closet, which allows customers to upload pictures of their clothes, categorize them, and enable them to put together different outfits. Bucco Couture also has a program called Clone a Suit, which allows them to produce well-fitted clothes for remote clients. All clients have to do is send Bucco their best-fitting suits so he can take their measurements and create custom-fitted suits. Or, if they have internet access and a tape measure, Bucco can talk them through the measurement process and get their specific requirements for a personalized suit.

Bucco is also excited about a possible television show and the launch of his latest line, 360 Style. "360 Style aims to give men the look of a specific style and stature, making them stand out from the crowd and admired by other men," enthuses Bucco.
