Budget and Snow Mean More in the Market for Fun

Have the Craic has seen an upsurge of membership in the last week. They put this down tot he doom and gloom of the IMF and Budget situation coupled with the snow. The Irish just want to have the Craic!

Cyndi Lauper sang 'Girls just wanna have fun' and it would seem that this needs to be our new anthem too. All the doom and gloom in the news of Ireland's economic climate is proving good for business for Have the Craic. The online social club recently ran ads offering people an alternative to the Two Brians and Angela Merkel. Traffic jumped to the site showing that the Irish need an escape from the news.

Have the Craic, the online social club, has grown from a small group of supporters to over 800 members, to date, since it launched in June 2009.

Elaine Walsh, who founded the website says that she always felt people were more at ease when they enjoy what they're doing. She says 'It's much easier to make new friends when you're involved in an activity that is of interest to you'.

From this belief she has built a website that organises fun events for its members so that they can meet other people. It is free to join the website. Members pay for events that www.havethecraic.com organises.

In December they have a range of things to do
Despite the weather Have the Craic are going ahead with their Wine Tasting night and Indoor Golf night. They're even organising a post Christmas Turkey walk to get rid of the pounds put on during the festive season.

They're launching in Cork in 2011
In February they are launching the Have the Craic events in Cork starting with a Games Night. Members will meet in a local pub and mingle over retro games such as Connect Four, Guess Who, Jenga. It's a popular event for their members and it always gets people talking.

They are looking for partners for their spring and summer events around the country such as sailing schools, kayaking and adventure centres. They are also interested in bringing golf lessons to their members around Ireland.

'The only prerequisite is that their business partners are good craic and can get people mingling and chatting. Irish people need to have fun'. Says Walsh.
